E-mails & Web sites

Okay. This is business identity 101. If your email ends in @AOL, @Yahoo or any other non-descript domain, you are perceived more as an individual not an established business. This could be detrimental to your success, because typically businesses do business with established businesses not "trying to get established" individuals. If you want prospects and customers to take you seriously, I suggest getting a legitimate e-mail address. There are many avenues to do this for example, for a fee Yahoo and other email providers will allow you to use a business domain ie, name@yourcompany.com in place of @yahoo.com. These days having a web site is critical to establishing legitimacy to your business also. Even if you are a one man show, you don't have to look like one. This is 2008 people; not having a web site is like not having a fax machine in the 80’s. I’m embarrassed to say that most teenagers could set up a web site so if you know one, they could do it for you. The process is easier than you think. Here are some useful tips:

  1. Go to www.godaddy.com, www.bluerazor.com or any other domain provider and have a go at finding a domain name (web & e-mail name) that is suitable for your business. It’s really easy!
  2. Then open an account, register the name and it will ask you if you want to create a web page. Go ahead and do it, customers service will step you through the process and don’t get too complicated. They even have basic templates you can use. You can enhance the content later on, maybe with the assistance of a professional.
  3. My advice; Go online to your local community college, post an ad for a student to build your web site for you. They work for nothing!

That’s it for now.

Oh! My monthly quote.

"Don’t tell them anything about what you do, until you’ve learned everything about what they do. ~ David Yoho, TEC Speaker"
